Earthquake is felt in Boston.

October 29, 1727

Residents who are awakened by the event described the sound as “horrid rumbling, like the noise of many coaches together driving on the paved stones,” and is said to have been felt through “the whole country north of the Delaware River.” It is subsequently estimated to have been at a magnitude of 5.0. A fast day is held “on account of the late, surprising and amazing earthquakes and the repeated shaking of the Earth” on December 21, 1727.
